Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and inlays are specialized restorations that target significantly damaged premolars and molars, offering more than conventional fillings for teeth with extensive decay. By precisely matching the shape and size of the damaged area, inlays and onlays provide unparalleled protection. Unlike amalgam fillings, they reconstruct the tooth’s structure, including the surface and cusps, while conserving healthy tooth structure. These alternatives are especially ideal when a filling is substantial, but a dental crown isn’t required.

What sets inlays and onlays apart? An inlay perfectly fits within the biting surface, while an onlay covers one or more of the ridges of the tooth, or the cusps. The process mirrors routine fillings: local anesthesia ensures comfort, decay is removed, and an impression is sent to our adept lab for your permanent restoration’s meticulous crafting. In the interim, a temporary filling is applied.

Maintenance involves treating them as you would your natural teeth – brushing twice daily, daily flossing, and regular visits to our practice. With these practices, these restorations can endure for years.
